Fix our World Festival...

Cassandra
What a joy to be part of such a positive event this past weekend.  Fix our World Festival happened in TB McQueston Park in Hamilton.  It is a gathering of various organizations, charities, and community groups all working together to inspire positive change in our world.  We met artists, activists, community leaders, people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds.

We were inspired to meet Dora from Schools of Hope Ghana, who is working hard to build and repair schools for children in her home country of Ghana, West Africa.  She inspired us with her stories of hope and renewed faith.  It's amazing what a difference education makes in the lives of children living in poverty.

It was a blessing and we were happy to be part  of it.  Thanks for the support for Nurture A Child Uganda and our friend, Pendo Gifts!  Selbina is such a blessing to the women of Kenya AND to NACHU - we so appreciate her help and support!

Thanks for reading!

Gold for Change Campaign

Cassandra

We are really excited to introduce a brand new campaign for supporting Nurture A Child Uganda!

We need your gold!  We are taking your old, unneeded, collecting dust, broken, don't want it any more, would be willing to part with it, hidden away somewhere GOLD!  We are taking that gold and CHANGING it into something really beautiful.

Did you know, we can cash in gold?  Yes, our earthly 'treasures' can be exchanged for money that will then bring life and hope to those most in need.  We're talking feeding the hungry and clothing the naked.  Pretty amazing, eh?  We think so.

Money raised through this campaign will help pay for the daily costs of housing over thirty orphaned and vulnerable children in Soroti, Uganda.  We'll be covering rent, school fees, medical bills, food, clothing, farm development, and investing in plans for a brand new school for vulnerable children.

We would be happy to provide you with an official receipt of the cash value on all gold donated and a follow up with receipt of the money received in Uganda!  It's amazing to see how our earthly possessions can make a huge impact in the lives of those in need.

So... what are you waiting for?  Let's take our GOLD and invest in amazing CHANGES in the lives of children in East Africa.

Email us at nachu@bell.net for more information or get in touch via the Nurture A Child Website.

NACHU's Farm and Land

Cassandra
We are so excited to share photos of NACHU's new farm land.  More updates to come!  James spent weeks and weeks working the land, and it looks quite different now, so we'll hopefully have new photos soon!

PRAISE GOD for miracles.  This land will be used to farm and to help grow NACHU's ministry.

Veggie Fest!

Cassandra
We were so grateful to be invited to Veggie Fest Hamilton as a special guest.  Thank you so much to Monica LaVella, the event creator who generously invited us at no cost.  What a group of supportive, lively people!  Thank you, thank you!  We were able to raise over $500 for NACHU.

We shared a table with Selbina from Pendo Gifts, as we often do!

Locke Street Festival

Cassandra
This past weekend was our Locke Street Festival event.  The day started off a little rough with a crazy downpour of rain, wind, and freezing temperatures.  But, it did get a little better and by mid-day the sun was peaking out from behind the clouds and the streets started filling with people.

Thanks for all those who came to say hello.

NACHU shared a booth with Selbina from Pendo Gifts and we had a great time sharing the stories of not only James and Norah in Uganda, but the plight of women in Kibera, Kenya.

We were blessed to meet you all!

Here are some snapshots:

Finally, the rain clears up and our smiles are back.  (Left: Selbina, Right: Cassandra)

A much needed update!

Cassandra

Hello, friends of Nurture a Child Uganda!

I've realized that I haven't maintained contact as much as I should and want to start making a very strong effort to blog for NACHU regularly.  This will allow our NACHU family to connect with supporters and friends here in Canada and around the world.

Many of you have asked for more regular updates, so, let's start!

This year has been a whirlwind of God's grace and many ups and downs for NACHU.  If there's one thing we've all learned, it's that God's timing is perfect and we need to rely on Him and lean on Him for guidance and direction.

Through a gift from a generous friend of NACHU, James and Norah were actually able to buy land for a farm a few months ago.  We were floored at God's provision for this project and it continues to be in 'process'.  The truth is, everything costs money!

We were able to purchase about 4 acres of land near NACHU and James has worked extremely hard to cultivate the land that was rough and looking nothing like a farm.  I can't imagine how hard he labored to achieve this.  He suffered a few injuries but came out alright in the end. Please keep praying for James' safety as he supports his family and all the children who are part of NACHU.

Here are some photos of the land we were able to purchase:

The first photo we saw of the land...

We are striving to establish more on-the-ground sustainability.  Growing food and keeping livestock would just make sense with regard to the cost of food and the training of the children and teens in basic farming.  This is not only sustainable but a great learning process and opportunity for many of the children/teens.  These skills will follow them all through their lives.

This also gives NACHU a great piece of land (beside a lake!) where we can continue to pray about how God would have us use this.  I am still brought to tears every time I think about the blessing of this land and how it could be used in the future.  Please, keep praying for us - for wisdom and clarity as to how we are to use this property for His glory.

Also, there are still many needs with regard to the farm.  Many costs are still not covered.

We still need a structure to keep tools, equipment, and also a place where James or a farm manager could rest if needed.  The needs are great but God is greater.

If you would like to contribute directly to the farm project, please, contact us.  We really do need your help!

For the more practical reader, I am sharing here, some of the reasons we chose to purchase land for a farm.

Please, pray for God's direction and for the crops to grow.  We've had a lot of setbacks and rain has been scarce.  Pray for abundance and that God's mercies would just pour all over those fields!

Other updates/Prayer Requests:

  • We are still seeking out the best path for NACHU's future.  Whether we can become a Canadian charity and help establish a solid partnership program or whether we are called to partner with a larger organization. Please pray.

  • James and Norah welcomed their third child in early July.  She's beautiful and healthy.  Please pray for her continued health as she grows and for Norah's strength.

  • Pray for health for the children of NACHU, as many illnesses have been cycling through.

  • Of course, as always, pray for James and Norah's continued strength as they live sacrificially for the children in their community.

  • Please, also pray for us here in Canada - that God would direct our path and show our family what our calling is with regard to NACHU. Pray that He would make His plan known and direct us (Cassandra and Wesley) with what is best for this ministry.  We are praying about Cassandra possibly heading to Uganda later this year but want to be sure this is the right choice!

Thank you and big hugs from the NACHU family.

Welcome, baby Shalom!

Cassandra
We are so excited to announce the arrival of James and Norah's 3rd biological child, beautiful Shalom!  She was born July 8th at 6am.  She is healthy and doing well.

Please continue to pray for her health and for Norah as she heals from the delivery and cares for this sweet child on top of all the other responsibilities at NACHU.

Praise God, He is so good.

James sent some photos.

Here she is:

Blessings!
